New Class Starting Monday, September 2, 2013!

This is a fun and interactive introduction to Photoshop Elements.  Photoshop Elements is a full featured photo program for all of your photographic needs including organizing, editing, and enhancing images: creating custom photo keepsakes and sharing via the web and more!

For more information on exactly how these classes work, refer to our home page.

Week 1: Setting up Photoshop Elements:  This week’s assignment you will be setting up the preferences and color settings for your program.  We will also have some fun using one of the Photoshop filters.  We will also be talking about different file formats.

Week 2: Learning how to rotate and crop:  This week we will practice rotating and cropping.  Go out and shoot some crooked pictures and we’ll learn how to fix them!

Week 3: How do you work with layers and levels?  This week you will be learning about a very important concept in Photoshop, Layers.  Your homework will be working with pictures that need contrast adjustment using layers.

Week 4: Learn how to retouch with the cloning tool:  We will be learning how to retouch using the cloning tools

Week 5: How to work with Saturation and Color Balance:  We will be working with images that need adjustment in saturation and color balance.

Week 6: The Selection Tools:  We will be using a least 3 of the selection tools described in this lesson using your own images.

Week 7: Resolution, Image Sizing and Sharpening:  We’ll play with your image sizes, and learn about resolution and sharpening.  We’ll zoom in one one particular area of an image and see how the resolution changes.

Week 8: What about using text?  Let’s use Photoshop Elements to do a promotional piece, business card or flyer.  You’ll see how useful it is!

  • For Photoshop (CS2 through current version) or Elements 5 (through current version).   Photoshop Elements is now available on Amazon.com as a download for $59.  You can get their Premier Elements package which includes Video editing for $109.  This class will only cover still imagery.
  • Learn how to use basic functions you will use every day, as well as special tips for “popping” your images and bringing them back to the way you saw them in the first place.
  • Gain confidence in using a photo editing software that has so many multiple uses

Each week you will receive a PDF with the week’s lesson and you will be able to read through the text and photographic examples to learn the week’s concepts.  The assignments will be uploaded to the class Facebook site for interactive critique and discussion.  A great way to learn photography!
